Golden Circle
Private day tour, 8-10 hours, all year.
This popular trip takes us east of Reykjavik, where we begin by visiting Þingvellir (Thingvellir), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the location of Iceland's parliament between the years 930 AD and 1798. Thingvellir is located in a rift valley, where the N-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are separating, clearly visible at the great Almannagja or Everyman's Gorge.
We then proceed to Geysir, the hot spring that gave its name to the phenomenon world-wide. Here you can see "Strokkur," one of the world's few natural geysers that erupts on a regular basis or every 5-10 minutes.
After lunch, we'll visit Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, Iceland's most famous and visited waterfall, a national monument. The two-tiered waterfall plunges into a crevice over 30m deep in the Hvita River in south Iceland.
Depart Reykjavik at 8:30 AM and return by evening.
