Delta plans Iceland service for 2011
Delta Air Lines next summer will become the only U.S. airline with nonstop service from the United States to Iceland.
Atlanta-based Delta will connect New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Reykjavik, Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport 5 times per week starting June 1, 2011.
The flight will also operate direct from Delta's hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul, with a stop at New York-JFK.
The new Reykjavik flight will be operated as part of Delta's trans-Atlantic joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia.
In addition to domestic carriers Icelandair, Iceland Express, and Air Iceland, 13 foreign airlines have announced plans to fly to Iceland next summer. They are:
Air Berlin
Air Greenland
Austrian Airlines
Delta Airlines
Deutsche Lufthansa
Edelweiss Air
Finnair
German Wings
Hamburg International
Niki Luftfahrt
SAS
Travel Service
Transavia.com (subsidiary of Air France-KLM).
All told, Iceland's 3 airlines and the 13 foreign carriers will offer flights between Iceland and 56 destinations in Europe, the United States, and Canada in 2011.
