Sustainable Travel

Tourism plays a fundamental role in the Icelandic economy. This raises the stakes for travel companies operating in Iceland, which need to ensure that they have a positive impact on nature, society and the economy.

At Iceland Encounter, we understand that nature conservation is in everyone’s interest and that we owe it to future generations to protect the environment.

Iceland’s unspoiled nature is particularly sensitive to traffic. While touring, our guides strive to minimize our ecological footprint and combat tourism’s impact on climate change.

In our effort to strengthen communities in the areas where we operate, Iceland Encounter actively supports and empowers local suppliers and vendors.

We strive to offer more enjoyable experiences for visitors through meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues.

Iceland Encounter contributes to the Iceland Carbon Fund (ICF) to achieve carbon neutrality. We offset domestic travel for all of our guests, as well as international travel for our staff.

Iceland Encounter is a certified member of VAKINN – the official quality and environmental system for Icelandic tourism. To qualify, companies must adhere to rigorous criteria for quality of services, safety, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.
